HOW DOES IT WORK?
HOW DO I RESERVE MY SPOT?
The 2009 Act Four Community
A DIFFERENT KIND OF WRITING WORKSHOP PROVIDES YOU WITH A REVIEW OF YOUR FULL MANUSCRIPT BY FELLOW AUTHORS

About 5 out of 1,000 unpublished fiction writers will eventually become represented by a literary agent.  One out of three represented writers get published.

Is there a better way to achieving the skills to make your work publishable?

We think there is.  And, we have proof.
WHAT IS IT?

Act Four is an invitation-only workshop and retreat for fiction writers who have completed a first draft of at least one novel.  The intent is to provide a review of each participant’s query package and full manuscript, by three or four author peers, in a relaxed but intimate setting, shared by fellow writers in various stages of the publication process.

WHAT DOES IT COST?

There is no conference fee, but you are responsible for your own lodging and meals for two nights.  You will also be committing a portion of your summer to reading three to four unpublished novels by authors who will also be critiquing your work.

WHERE WILL IT BE HELD?

For the third year in a row, the 2009 Act Four Retreat will be held at the Cheshire Cat Bed and Breakfast, 36 West Valerio Street, Santa Barbara, California. The inn is an old Santa Barbara home, providing an intimate family setting for discussing your writing with your peers.  For a virtual tour of the Cheshire Cat, see www.cheshirecat.com, (805) 569-1610.   To get the 10% discount, please register by phone and say you’re with Act Four.  There is no discount if you register online.  If the Cheshire Cat is full, you may reserve one of eight “commuter slots” by paying a $50 hospitality fee to the Cheshire Cat cover your breakfasts, wine and cheese for two days.  There is a $50 cancellation fee.
